Best Family Photo Locations in Mobile, Alabama
One of the questions I get asked frequently as a family photographer in Mobile, Alabama is:
“Where should we take our family photos?”
And personally, the answer is about so much more than finding a pretty backdrop.
Yes, beautiful scenery matters. But when I’m helping families choose a location, my biggest priority is making sure everyone feels comfortable. Especially the kids. Because at the end of the day, the magic in your photos doesn’t come from the location itself. It comes from your connection with each other.
Choosing a Location That Actually Works for Your Family
This is why I’m incredibly intentional about the locations I recommend.
Sure, some locations are beautiful. But not every beautiful location is realistic for every family.
Busy streets, crowded spaces, or overly formal locations can sometimes create more stress than they’re worth, especially for parents with little kids who love to run.
As a mom myself, I completely understand the anxiety of trying to keep your children from:
running into strangers
hurting themselves
touching everything
So I intentionally choose family photo locations in Mobile and Dauphin Island where children have room to move freely and safely. Places where they can run buck wild for a minute and it’s completely okay. Because when parents feel less anxious, kids feel it too.
My biggest goal is for your family to feel comfortable, not stressed about constantly chasing toddlers through dangerous areas or worrying about perfect behavior.
I absolutely love a beautiful backdrop, but my main focus will always be the interaction between you and your family.
My Favorite Family Photo Locations in Mobile, Alabama and Dauphin Island
If you’re dreaming of relaxed, playful, connection-focused images, Dauphin Island is always one of my favorite locations for family photos.
Beach sessions naturally encourage movement and interaction. Kids can explore, run, splash, dig in the sand, and simply be themselves.And thats typically where the best moments happen.
Best Time for Dauphin Island Family Photos
For beach sessions, I almost always recommend sunrise or sunset. The light is softer, temperatures are cooler, and the beach is typically less crowded.
Sunrise sessions are especially wonderful for young children who tend to be happiest earlier in the day.

Spring Hill College
Spring Hill College is one of the most versatile family photo locations in Mobile, Alabama.
The tree-lined pathways, greenery, and lighting photograph beautifully year-round, and the shade gives us much more flexibility with timing. While I still love sunset sessions here, we can also make morning sessions and early afternoon sessions (about 2 hours before sunset) work beautifully because of the tree coverage.
Washington Square Park
Washington Square Park has such a quiet, relaxed feel while still being centrally located in Mobile. I love this spot for families who want greenery and charm without feeling overly formal. There’s enough open space for kids to move around freely, which helps sessions feel less stressful and more natural. Similar to Springhill, Washington Square Park also gives us flexibility on timing.
Bienville Square
If you love a more downtown, historic Mobile feel, Bienville Square can be a beautiful option. The surrounding architecture and mature trees create a classic Mobile backdrop while still offering enough shade and flexibility for beautiful light.
I especially love this location for families wanting a slightly more polished downtown feel without losing the relaxed nature of the session.
The Best Time of Day for Family Photos in Mobile & Dauphin Island
Lighting plays a huge role in how your photos feel.
In general, I recommend scheduling your session about an hour before sunset
for the softest, most flattering light.
However, some locations (like Spring Hill College and Washington Square Park) offer more flexibility because of tree shade.
Beach sessions almost always work best at sunrise or sunset.

At the end of the day, the “best” location isn’t necessarily the trendiest or most dramatic.

Where your kids feel free to play.
Where no one feels pressured to perform.
Where your photos feel like your actual life, just beautifully documented.
Because years from now, your children probably won’t remember the exact location. But they will remember what it felt like to be together there.
And that’s the part worth preserving.
